Fox and IMDb have made a big commitment to the “Baywatch” revival. Fox is boosting up its lifeguard drama game with a hefty screenplay and a penalty commitment to Baywatch, the classic beach series reboot. The most recent iteration is being co-produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle.
Deadline revealed exclusively in April of last year that Fremantle was working on a remake of Baywatch. At the time, Fox was in the process of creating Rescue: HI-Surf, an independent lifeguard drama franchise from John Wells Prods, and had already started negotiations with the studio about a potential series. TV co-production was later renewed for the 2023–2024 season; however, due to strikes-related delays, its current release date is set for the fall of 2024.
The new, “action-packed” Baywatch revival is written by Lara Olsen, who will also serve as showrunner.
